About Atina

Tex Turton has been involved in Agriculture for over four decades, having started his agricultural career as a Lecturer at an agricultural college.

He has always strived to broaden new horizons, conquer new challenges, and make a difference to agriculture in a new environment.

As General Manager of a large company farm he was responsible for:

  • A 5000ha farm in the Underberg region of KwaZulu Natal
  • 2500 head of beef cattle
  • 6000 Merino sheep
  • Construction of 4 x dams
  • Erection of centre pivots & drag line irrigation
  • 70ha of seed potatoes
  • 110ha maize & soya 
  • 120ha pasture all under centre pivots
  • 300ha of dry land crops, hay and pastures
  • Beef feedlot, feeding 750 head       
  • The management of plains game

Agricultural consulting and development, working in Zambia, DRC and Mozambique specialising in:                                 

  • Livestock
  • Potatoes
  • Cropping
  • Setting up of social responsibility programs for livestock and cropping
  • Consulting to a 38 000ha farming operation in Zambia,
  • Building their livestock breeding herd from 600 to 2500 breeding cows.
  • Expanding and rebuilding a feedlot from 120 animals to 15000 oxen standing in the feedlot.
  • Formulating and sourcing products for feedlot rations.
  • Planning and development of an on-farm abattoir.
  • Planning and development of meat retail businesses in the cities.
  • Setting up a socially responsible program to hand over the enterprises to local citizens, working for the company.
  • Setting up an out-grower scheme to supply the feedlot with local cattle and support the surrounding farmers.

Underberg

  • Consulting to an IT company who have acquired land in the Underberg area.
  • Developing a model farm and Eco. Estate.
  • Setting up an Aquaponic vegetable enterprise.
  • Setting up a microbrewery and restaurant.

Nigeria

  • Consulting to Quinn McGrath Agri for the establishment of a 53000 head feedlot from greenfield status to fully developed.
